Protein packed snack for your toddler!

We mothers most of the time struggle to ensure, that our little ones consume a balanced meal. Also, we keep looking for recipes/ingredients to make mealtime interesting for our children; as well as offer them nutrition. One such indigenous source of protein is "SATTU FLOUR" which is typically made of roasted Bengal Gram Dal and available across all grocery/departmental stores in India.

I gave a shot to this recipe of laddoos made out of "SATTU FLOUR" and it turned out to be a great hit with my daughter. I would highly recommend this to you too as this has multiple health benefits for your little ones and also keep them feeling full in between meals or during travel.

Ingredients

  1. Sattu flour 1 cup
  2. Jaggery powder or grated jaggery 1/2 cup
  3. Ghee 2 to 3 Tbsp
  4. Cardamom powder 1/4 Tsp

Steps to make

Heat 2 tablespoon ghee in a kadhai or a pan.

Add 1 cup heaped sattu flour.

Mix the sattu flour with ghee and begin to roast on low flame by stirring it continuously.

Continue roasting the sattu for around 5 minutes and ensure it does not stick to the bottom of the kadai or pan.

Empty out the roasted sattu on another plate and let it cool for a while.

Then add 1/2 cup jaggery powder or grated jaggery to the roasted sattu flour.

Mix the jaggery powder well with the roasted sattu flour and you can also add 1/4 tsp green cardamom powder around the same time. You can even run the jaggery mixture into the mixer before adding it to the sattu flour so that it mixes evenly.

I didn't do that so my jaggery granules remained while forming the laddoos.

Start shaping the mixture into round balls or laddoos. In case you find that the laddoos are not shaping well then you can add some warm ghee and give it another try. Ensure that you form laddoos, while the mixture is still warm.

Let your toddler enjoy this healthy, protein packed snack anytime of the day :) Mine loved eating it and asks for one everyday. So, it was worth my efforts!
